The streets of Tenerife’s capital were once again bustling with crowds yesterday, marking the second day of the sixteenth iteration of Plenilunio. The event, which commenced on Friday to overwhelming success and concludes today, kicked off with an opening ceremony held in García Sanabria Park. During this ceremony, the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised the family-friendly essence of this occasion, which “many individuals eagerly anticipate in the capital, featuring more than a hundred activities across 20 locations,” notably highlighted by the 220 drones that adorned the night sky with various designs.
Bermúdez elaborated that “this initiative seeks to allow citizens to relish a vibrant, accessible, and commercial Santa Cruz, with numerous attractions, prominently including the Sunday Consumption Vouchers.” He further remarked that “the programme is exceedingly extensive, with many sites featuring activities, ranging from the Almeyda Barracks to the Nuestra Señora de África market; from Plaza de España to García Sanabria Park, which is also themed around Alice in Wonderland in line with this year’s motif.”

Additionally, she underscored the importance of hosting such events, stating that “they attract thousands of prospective consumers and stimulate the economy through spending in local shops and restaurants.” In this context, she reminded attendees that “this Sunday, the Sunday Consumption Vouchers can be utilised, which were sold out in a mere 20 minutes on Friday.”
Pérez concluded her address with a reference to Alice in Wonderland, who famously inquired: “How long is forever?”, to which the white rabbit replied “sometimes, just a second,” urging citizens to “make the most of every fleeting moment during this Full Moon Santa Cruz weekend.”
The extensive schedule of activities yesterday ran until midnight, while today’s events will occur from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The musical line-up includes notable performances by Macaco, Sara Socas, Bejo, El Vega Life, Sistah Vibes, and Lass Suga, particularly spotlighted at Plaza de La Candelaria and the pedestrian promenade of Marítima Avenue. Yesterday’s festivities unfolded across seventeen distinct locations, some of which will be reprised today. Notably, the traditional Le Good Market will take place in García Sanabria Park, featuring areas dedicated to gastronomy, musical acts, and children’s entertainment.
Plenilunio is organised by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society and enjoys sponsorship from Promotur Turismo de Canarias, financed through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan under the Next Generation EU Funds.
