SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to allocate a total of 9,139,570.92 euros until 2026 to the Specialist Service for Prevention and Comprehensive Support for Victims of Gender-Based Violence in Tenerife.

The Government Council convened this Wednesday approved this multi-year funding aimed at enhancing the services available to victims of gender violence and implementing prevention strategies.

This was announced by the second vice president, José Miguel Ruano, alongside the fifth vice president, Águeda Fumero, during a press conference to discuss these matters.

With this financial support, the Island Service of Specialist Care for Gender Violence Victims will expand from 11 offices to 14, introducing 3 new offices across the island, alongside necessary material and human resources in the metropolitan area, the Abona region, and the Orotava Valley.

Furthermore, two additional comprehensive support services for victims of sexual violence will be established in both the northern and southern areas of the island, alongside the existing service.

The agreement also stipulates that the successful entity will provide a total of 5 properties, as well as the set-up and maintenance of communication infrastructures, furnishings, and IT equipment for all offices, in addition to launching a pilot project focused on supporting victims of gender violence in rural settings, including the allocation of human resources to deliver specialised assistance within the community context, as detailed in a statement from the Cabildo.

In the Social Action sector, the extension of the contract for residential care services covering 23 sheltered housing units in Tenerife for individuals with mental health issues was also approved, amounting to 390,535.40 euros.

In terms of Municipal Cooperation and Housing, the partnership agreement with the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council was ratified for the project ‘Renewal of Basic Services in the Urbanised Area of the Barrio de la Salud Alto’.

This initiative entails an investment of approximately 5.8 million euros, jointly financed by the Cabildo and the Santa Cruz City Council, and aims to improve accessibility between Cornisa and Güímar streets and the square and open spaces surrounding 1,000 homes in the La Salud neighbourhood.

Additionally, a grant of 250,000 euros was sanctioned for the municipalities of La Matanza and Santa Úrsula to facilitate the Insular Activa Suelo Programme in areas with populations under 20,000.

In the realm of Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies, an order was approved for the public company Gesplan to undertake forest restoration services in the pine forests of Teide National Park that were affected by the 2023 fire, with a budget of 510,476.19 euros (EAFRD) and a nine-month execution timeframe.

In the Youth sector, the tender for the contract concerning the enhancement of the youth space at the Youth Information Centre was approved for an amount of 142,245.38 euros.

Moreover, within the Human Resources sector, the training initiative for internships within the Island Council of Tenerife and its Public Sector was approved for University of La Laguna (ULL) students for the 2024-2025 academic year, providing a total of 443 placements across 63 degree programmes.

In the area of Commerce and Business Support, an increase of 10,000 euros was approved in the agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services, and Navigation of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, aimed at improving and promoting productivity and competitiveness within the business environment of Tenerife, bringing the total to 257,003.59 euros.

GRANTS FOR PAPAS COOPERATIVES

In the Primary Sector, the guidelines for the allocation of subsidies to potato cooperatives were approved, focused on enhancing the technical and commercial management within the sector on the island.

This new line of funding is allocated a budget of 200,000 euros, dedicated to investing in cold storage facilities for the harvest.

In the field of Culture, an allocation of 480,204.45 euros was approved to support the ‘La Recova Art Room (equipment)’ project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, alongside another sum of 50,075.34 euros for the El Pinar Multipurpose Centre (La Victoria). Both ventures are part of the Cultural Infrastructure Plan 2016-2027.

Furthermore, regarding sports, the Governing Council approved the tender for organising the 2024-2025 Master Games, amounting to 141,211.87 euros. This sporting initiative aims to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles among adults aged over 30 on the island.

Additionally, the process to award the honorary title of Illustrious Son of the Island of Tenerife to Sergio Rodríguez Gómez was approved.

The Tenerife basketball player, widely known as ‘El Chacho’, retired this summer and has garnered numerous team and individual accolades throughout his 21-year professional career.

Among his many achievements are the World Championship in Japan (2006) and the European Championship with the Spanish National Team (2015), along with silver and bronze medals at the London (2012) and Rio (2016) Olympic Games.
