A cayuco carrying 55 migrants has arrived at the port of La Restinga, on the island of El Hierro, autonomously, escorted by a fishing vessel operating in the vicinity, as reported by Maritime Rescue sources to Europa Press.
The vessel, comprising 52 adults and two minors of sub-Saharan descent, was spotted by the crew of the Salvamar Adhara in close proximity to the dock. Once ashore, the health professionals from Primary Care, SUC, and the Red Cross confirmed that all individuals were in good overall health.
Additionally, the same sources have reported that the search for the individuals who were aboard the canoe that capsized near the island last Friday night has concluded, from which nine bodies were recovered.
For several days, a search has been conducted, but without success, for any potential survivors with the assistance of a patrol vessel, a Civil Guard helicopter, another helicopter from the Government of the Canary Islands, along with two Red Cross and Maritime Rescue boats.
The local councils of Valverde and El Hierro have already conducted the burials for the nine individuals who perished in the tragic incident.
