VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 1st October (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 63 migrants rescued from a canoe adrift in waters near El Hierro have been brought ashore at the port of La Estaca, along the Valverde coastline, due to adverse sea conditions, which rendered it imprudent to transfer them to La Restinga, as stated by sources from Maritime Rescue to Europa Press.
The cayuco, which had been under search since the previous night, was discovered by the Sasemar 103 aircraft, prompting the commencement of a rescue operation conducted by the Guardamar Calíope. This mission successfully facilitated the transfer of the individuals once it was established that the cayuco, suffering from engine failure, could not navigate to the port.
Among those on board were 56 adult males, five females, and two minors, all of whom received assistance at the capital’s port from personnel of the SUC, Primary Care, and the Red Cross.
