SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30 September (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to complete the channeling project of the Los Pastores ravine where it intersects with the TF-31 in the Martiánez area of Puerto de la Cruz by the end of December, following an investment exceeding 600,000 euros.

This announcement was made by the president of the island corporation, Rosa Dávila, who inspected the site on Monday, accompanied by the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, the mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Leopoldo Afonso, and the first and second deputy mayors, David Hernández and Alonso Acevedo, along with the Councilor for Commerce, Diego Ramón Moreno.

Rosa Dávila highlighted that the Tenerife Cabildo had pledged to address an issue that has plagued Barranco de Los Pastores for a considerable period.

“We are aware that with every heavy downpour, the road suffers from water cascading in the form of waterfalls due to runoff accompanied by stones and various sediments from Barranco de Los Pastores, rendering it hazardous for between 20,000 and 25,000 vehicles and pedestrians that traverse this area, depending on the stretch and season,” she remarked.

Dámaso Arteaga further elaborated that the project involves constructing a reinforced concrete frame to channel water away from the road and the adjoining pedestrian promenade, thus safeguarding the roadway.

He also noted that “these works are somewhat complex” and necessitate the closure of the access road through Martiánez to ensure public safety.

“This will result in diverted traffic, so we advise all road users to heed the signs and directions from highway personnel until the project is completed,” he explained.

Conversely, Leopoldo Afonso expressed gratitude to the Cabildo of Tenerife for its prompt action in resolving “a historical issue regarding the runoff affecting this road, which has created significant mobility challenges for decades.”

“We can only express our appreciation to the Council for its commitment to this vital endeavour for the municipality,” he stated.

MORE THAN TWENTY MICROPILES

The project has commenced with the installation of 24 micropiles, which will subsequently support the entirely reinforced concrete framework.

This framework will feature a 1-meter edge foundation slab across the entire surface along with two support walls.

The inner wall (mountain side) will rise to 8.5 meters and have a depth of 80 centimetres, while the outer wall (sea side) will stand at 6.5 meters with a depth of 60 centimetres. Both walls will be buried one metre above the existing pavement level.

The ceiling slab will measure 80 centimetres, featuring a channel for water flow, with a free width of 8.10 metres and a height of 1.5 metres.

The connection between the channel and the upper terrain will be carried out by respecting and adapting to the current slope’s topography, which has been previously cleared.

Upon completion of the necessary work to channel the ravine, the asphalt surface and the horizontal markings will be restored prior to reopening the road to traffic.
