Yesterday, the Cabildo of Tenerife unveiled the seventh edition of the Tricontinental Crafts Fair, which this year will spotlight Portugal and will take place at the Fairgrounds from October 26 to November 3. This year, the fair will showcase an unparalleled number of artisans: approximately 200 from three different continents.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, emphasised yesterday that “these connections with Portugal not only enhance this edition, but also strengthen our goal of fostering cultural and commercial ties between Tenerife, the Canary Islands, and Portugal.”

Dávila affirmed that this fair “has become one of the most significant on a regional level and represents one of the largest gatherings for the marketing of international crafts in Spain.”

In addition, Efraín Medina, the insular Minister of Education and Employment, praised the collaborative effort with the Fairgrounds: “We function as a unified team and this is the outcome. We are set to present an inspiring fair of exceptional quality. Furthermore, it will be a family-friendly event featuring gastronomy, themed nights, music, live crafts, and a myriad of other attractions.”

Vicente Álvarez, the Portuguese consul in Tenerife, expressed gratitude to the Cabildo for the “organisation” and stated that “this event holds great significance, and we are immensely thankful that Portugal is the featured nation.”

Meanwhile, the insular Minister of Industry, Commerce and Primary Sector, Manuel Fernández, who also oversees the Fairgrounds, remarked on the “great pleasure it is to host this fair” and announced that artisans will have “a total of 200 stalls and a stage exceeding 50 square metres.” Juan Carlos Camacho, head of the Crafts Unit, highlighted that “more than 33 countries will participate and we will welcome 30 artisans from Portugal. Additionally, there will be representatives of indigenous cultures from Mexico, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.”

This year, the seventh edition of the Tricontinental Crafts Fair will focus on a specific theme, namely Portugal, a nation historically connected to the Canary Islands that has made significant cultural, social, and economic contributions to the Islands. Portugal boasts a rich array of handcrafted products, including ceramics and tiles that adorn the main façades, carpets and tapestries, leather goods, embroidery, wood carvings, jewellery, scale models, and pottery. The fair will maintain its global ethos, showcasing a diverse selection of Ibero-American and African crafts while promoting European representation, naturally incorporating artisans from Tenerife and providing a representative presence from the other islands.

Previous Activities

In addition, the Cabildo of Tenerife will continue with activities leading up to the Tricontinental Fair, such as a screening series of Portuguese films that will commence next Monday with The House of the Spirits, continuing on October 21 with La casa Russia, and on October 28 with La carta, at the CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Santa Cruz.
