SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 September (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Friday, the Cabildo of Tenerife reached an institutional consensus to examine the establishment of an Insular Animal Welfare Consortium or an alternative form of prompt management within the current legal framework.
The text of the initiative, which received unanimous approval from the Plenary, specifies that in this process, each municipality is required to contribute the necessary resources based on its responsibilities, while the Cabildo will offer its two shelters, thereby allowing for 24-hour care or collection agreements between the Consortium and Protective Entities at the island level, irrespective of where the abandoned animal is located, enabling the creation of an Island Network of Regional Shelters.
Furthermore, all political factions concurred on the need to promptly reconvene the Insular Animal Welfare Council, following the appointment of new municipal representatives by Fecam, as stipulated by the regulations.
The agreement also encompassed the initiation of a multi-year contract or designated subsidy with the Official College of Veterinarians of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, aimed at implementing strategies that mitigate animal mistreatment in Tenerife.
Additionally, the plenary session resolved to persist in advancing the transformation of the Tierra Blanca shelter into a centre for animal welfare promotion, alongside the completion of the comprehensive renovation of the El Ravelo shelter.
