The committee representing the Tenerife tram strike has labelled the negotiations commenced with the Cabildo and Metropolitano as “unacceptable”. They have expressed concerns over the “lack of commitment” from the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, to adhere to existing health and safety legislation “along with the principles of transparency and good governance that should direct the operation of a public company.”
In a statement shared via social media, they also demand that, following over four months of discussions “without meaningful advancements,” the mediation of the conflict should be undertaken by officials from the Council, “thereby ensuring neutrality and impartiality.” Previously, this role had been held by Human Resources specialist Jorge Díaz Brito.
The latest proposal from the company, they assert, “not only fails to meet the essential demands of the workforce, which has been advocating for its health and safety for 112 days, but also reiterates suggestions that have previously been rejected multiple times or merely restates commitments that had already been established during the partial suspension of the strike in March.”
Consequently, the Commission considers it “unacceptable” to present measures that “disregard an issue as critical as workplace safety, particularly within a public service context.”
“We are open to negotiation and reaching agreements, but we cannot accept proposals that do not prioritise the safety and health of workers. We reaffirm our readiness to evaluate any proposition that aligns with the objectives which have brought us to this situation,” they assert.
