Francisco Javier García Rodríguez, the rector of the University of La Laguna, will officiate the reading of the proclamation for this year’s Adeje patron saint festivities during an event scheduled for October 5th at the town’s auditorium, beginning at 7:00 p.m. This gathering will signify the official commencement of the celebrations in honour of the Virgin of La Encarnación, which will persist until October 20th.
García, who hails from Tijarafe and was born in 1977, holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration as well as a PhD in Economics from the University of La Laguna, where he is also a lecturer in Business Organisation and has served as rector for just over a year.
Over the past decade, he has forged a strong connection with the municipality of Adeje, particularly through his involvement in educational initiatives such as the Tourism degree programme and the Summer University. For several years, he acted as the primary liaison for the ULL concerning the organisation of these programmes.
García succeeds José Luis Delgado, an engineer and Adeje native, who presided over the opening of the festivities in 2023.
On the 5th, the celebrations will commence with a mass at the Church of Santa Úrsula, followed by the descent of the Virgin of La Encarnación and the raising of the flag. Following the opening address, a concert titled Anthology of the bolero, story of a migrant love will ensue.
