SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Officers from the Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have conducted several monitoring operations under the ‘Annual Plan for Comprehensive Control of Fishing Activities,’ during which they apprehended four individuals engaged in illegal fishing in Garachico, aboard two recreational boats, significantly surpassing the permitted fish catch limit per individual per day.
Following meticulous surveillance of various recreational vessels and several vehicles linked to the offenders, the agents located these four men with a total of 211 kilograms of fish from multiple species, including blackmouth, samas, amberjacks, snappers, goatfish, moray eels, bishop fish, and other smaller varieties.
Of this total, 161 kilograms were taken from one boat and 50 kilograms from the other, all caught unlawfully, greatly exceeding the maximum catches allowed for their type of permit (recreational fishing), which led to their confiscation.
Under the stipulations of Law 17/2003, dated April 10, regarding Fishing in the Canary Islands, the maximum daily catch permitted for this category of permit is 5 kilograms per person each day. Consequently, all individuals involved would be guilty of a serious infringement, as indicated by the Civil Guard in an official statement.
