The La Laguna City Council has announced that, through its Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life, it has earmarked nearly 100,000 euros to financially support up to nine initiatives from social entities that engage with various community groups within the municipality.

The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, took the lead in signing the relevant agreements alongside representatives from several organisations, including the Environmental Welfare Association, the Federation of Deaf People of the Canary Islands (Fasican), the Heart and Life Association of the Canary Islands, Atelsam Mental Health, the Diabetes Association of Tenerife, the Anchieta Association for the Social Reintegration of Minors, Aspercan, the Canary Islands Association of Relatives and Individuals with Mental Illness (AFES), and the Alejandro Da Silva Canary Islands Foundation against Leukemia.

The local councillor highlighted that this funding is intended to “enhance the outstanding work that these organisations undertake throughout the year with vulnerable individuals or those requiring various forms of support”. He added, “This allocation is part of the overall financing strategy of this department, which in 2023 alone constituted an investment exceeding 1.5 million euros for initiatives of this kind”.

The projects encompassed by this funding aim to establish edible gardens, offer guidance for diabetes patients, provide support for La Laguna residents with autism spectrum disorders, assist individuals with congenital heart conditions, and implement essential services for people with hearing impairments.
