This week, the La Laguna City Council convened a collaborative meeting with representatives from both the local police and the National Police to organise the security measures that will be implemented starting this weekend in the nightlife area of Cuadrilátero, along with other locations within the municipality.

The acting Councillor for Citizen Security, Badel Albelo, was present at the meeting and remarked that “this is a preventative measure that we have been undertaking in recent years to bolster surveillance in these high-traffic areas, thereby preventing any incidents or disturbances”.

“The La Laguna City Council will establish a security plan comparable to those of past occasions, enhancing the current manpower with the new security cameras that were installed this year to facilitate monitoring and responses from security personnel,” the councillor further commented.

These surveillance tools are fitted with the latest technology available, and their efficiency has been validated since last March. The aim of this initiative was to improve the imagery quality for more effective oversight of these recreational environments.

This working group, which will conduct further follow-up meetings in the coming months as was announced yesterday, will concentrate particularly on another significant issue of concern to the Laguna Council—namely, underage alcohol consumption in proximity to these entertainment venues.

Festivities of Christ

In addition, another security plan is currently in effect on the streets of La Laguna, specifically focused on the various cultural and religious celebrations for the Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna 2024. Since the 5th, this team has included over one hundred members, and it will be operational until tomorrow.

The festival schedule concludes this weekend with events such as the inaugural Siroco Festival, which took place yesterday; the procession and fireworks for La Octava, as well as the Café Quijano concert today; and the third edition of the Children’s Fair along with the closing concert featuring Pasión Vega, which will occur tomorrow. Additionally, there is a packed programme of sporting events kicking off today with the Ciudad de La Laguna Table Tennis tournament and the BMX Nocturna Ciudad de La Laguna, among others.
