The Tenerife Council, through its Roads department, will be altering traffic flows around the Father Anchieta roundabout due to the installation of the fourth module of the walkway that constitutes the Father Anchieta’s Great Pedestrian Ring. The construction is set to commence on Monday (23rd September), with assembly of the segment taking place on Tuesday (24th September). This work will necessitate the closure of both lanes of the Padre Anchieta roundabout and will extend until Friday (29th September) from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
In light of these closures, the following detours will be implemented: access from TF-5 to TF-24 and Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street via Lora and Tamayo-Mayber street – Camino San Miguel de Geneto – Domingo González Pérez street – TF-265 or El Coromoto, as well as access to TF-5 northbound from Geneto and TF-24 via La Trinidad Avenue.
The project for the Father Anchieta’s Great Pedestrian Ring includes 11 metal segments weighing 40 tons each, entailing an investment of 8.8 million euros. The construction, carried out by the company Obras Huarte Lain SA, involves a continuous curved beam shaped like a ring, approximately 100 metres in diameter, supported by a series of point supports, including a parking area adjacent to the current car park of the Faculty of Biology at the University of La Laguna.
Upon completion, the eight pedestrian crossings used by over 20,000 individuals daily will be eliminated, thereby enhancing safety conditions and facilitating traffic flow. The design of the Great Pedestrian Ring is a significant achievement in this category of infrastructure, having been honoured with the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards, presented by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain.
