The Hoya Fría Military Barracks will host this Sunday, 22 September, the eleventh edition of the OCR Crossfast Race Civic Military Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This event is organised by the Sports Club Crossfast 49, Infantry Regiment Tenerife 49, and the Sports Service of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council. This year, the event has set a new participation record with 1,000 registrants, comprising 380 women, 620 men, 75 children, and 35 pets. In comparison, last year’s event saw 773 participants, making this edition a remarkable success.

The launch took place this morning, attended by the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, along with the third deputy mayor and councillor for Urban Planning and the Salud-La Salle district, Zaida González. They were accompanied by Colonel Alberto Cherino Muñoz, head of the Tenerife 49 Infantry Regiment, and Brigadier Fernando Javier Rebenaque González, director of the sporting event.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, remarked that “this sporting occasion has progressively gained prominence among the events held in the city, which is a positive sign as we celebrate this eleventh edition.” He further stated, “this demonstrates the cooperation between the Army and the City Council, a partnership I shall always champion. This event is undoubtedly a testament to the visible commitment to this collaboration.” Additionally, the mayor underscored that it is an activity designed for the entire family, featuring categories for both children and pets.

Councillor Zaida González stated, “this year again, the Civic Military Cross Fast secures its place in the city’s sporting calendar, an initiative that we continue to support through the City Council and its Sports Service.” She added, “we are keen to continue hosting this event because it inspires participants to engage and strive to conquer the challenges of completing the obstacle course while enjoying themselves and appreciating their own worth.”

The councillor also highlighted that “a significant factor in the success of the Civic-Military OCR is that participants, for one day, have the chance to be at the Hoya Fría barracks and experience the training exercises that the military routinely conduct to enhance their physical-military fitness.”

This challenging civic-military sporting occasion consists of a foot race featuring two routes: one of 10 km and another of 7 km, taking place within the Hoya Fría Barracks. Participants must overcome various obstacles and challenges—over 70 for the 10 km route and more than 60 for the 7 km route—distributed throughout the designated course. The event is slated to commence at 8:30 in the morning.

The established participation formats include teams of three (male, female, or mixed categories), pairs, or individuals (male or female categories). The second edition of the Can Crossfast format will also occur, allowing participants to run with their pets (dogs) along a 3 km path, featuring more than 10 obstacles and challenges.

This edition also introduces a new non-competitive race format, termed ‘Kids Crossfast’. Children aged between 6 and 9 years will compete in a 1-kilometre race, while those aged between 10 and 14 years will tackle a 2-kilometre course, complete with various age-appropriate challenges and obstacles, including an inflatable.
