SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Island Council, through its Historical Heritage department, has increased the funding allocated for grants aimed at individuals, businesses, and property owner communities, with the objective of supporting the restoration of buildings recognised for their cultural significance.
Consequently, following the closure of the application period on 7 July, a remarkable total of 210 submissions were received, marking a 25% rise compared to the previous year, amounting to a total of two million Euros for this round of funding.
The island’s Historical Heritage director, Isabel de Esteban, commended the positive response to the grant initiative, stating that it represents “the largest effort made to date by the Cabildo in assisting owners of culturally valuable buildings in their preservation, with conditions being the most advantageous that any Canarian administration has approved so far”.
The island director also mentioned that the department has streamlined all processes to ensure the prompt disbursement of the grants in the upcoming months, enabling applicants to access funds to commence their projects within six months from their application submission date.
After the period for amending applications and supplying additional documentation has concluded, the various submissions will be evaluated and reviewed by a committee before the proposed list of beneficiaries is established.
These grant lines are directed at individuals and legal entities, excluding the Catholic Church and public administrations, which have their own funding sources, and aim to facilitate a range of interventions, including maintenance, conservation, restoration, consolidation, as well as the modernisation or replacement of water, electricity, and sanitation networks.
As a general guideline, 50% of the project costs are subsidised, with a cap of 30,000 Euros for each recipient, although this percentage may be raised to 100% of the project cost depending on the beneficiary’s financial situation.
