The Employment and Local Development Agency (AEDL) of Granadilla City Council unveiled the “I buy in Granadilla de Abona-Bonos Consumo” campaign yesterday, aimed at fostering business activity within the locality. This initiative was introduced by the mayor, the socialist Jennifer Miranda, the councillor responsible for the AEDL, Bianca Cerbán, and the president of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca), Abbas Moujir. The initiative is set to commence at the end of this month.
The primary aim of the “Granadilla de Abona Trade Bonds” is to stimulate spending in local enterprises, thus creating a beneficial effect on the municipality’s economy.
The mayor highlighted the significance of this campaign, which boasts a “historic” investment of €410,000 and intends to assist both the community and local businesses. “As a municipal government, we are making a firm commitment to energise the business sector,” stated Miranda.
Bianca Cerbán expressed her pleasure at the initiation of this project, which “we have been developing over the past year.” She also mentioned that this initiative signifies an economic boost for the local commercial sector during a time when there is, traditionally, “a downturn” in sales.
The consumer voucher campaign involves the distribution of 20,500 shopping cards, totalling €410,000, with Granadilla City Council contributing half, or €205,000. Consumers will be able to acquire up to 10 vouchers per individual, each worth €20, although they will only need to pay €10, with the remaining amount subsidised by the Granadilla Corporation. The vouchers can be redeemed at businesses participating in the campaign.
Abbas Moujir commended the council for its backing of local commerce and announced that, starting today, the recruitment of businesses keen to partake in this initiative will commence. This scheme has been successfully implemented in various municipalities across the Canary Islands for several years. Government estimates suggest that approximately a hundred micro-SMEs and SMEs in the municipality will participate in the campaign.
