Taxi Driver Tests Positive for Drugs After Hitting Woman in La Laguna

A taxi driver who hit a 76-year-old woman in the Guajara district of La Laguna on Tuesday tested positive for illegal substances, notably cocaine and THC, the active component found in cannabis. Consequently, he was taken into custody by local police officers.

The Citizen Security Department of La Laguna City Council has issued a statement indicating that disciplinary action will be instigated against the taxi driver.

It has been stated that following the completion of the report, the most severe penalties allowable under municipal regulations will be enforced, potentially leading to the permanent revocation of the licence.

The La Laguna council also foresees launching a monitoring campaign among taxi drivers in the upcoming days “to avert a recurrence of such an incident.”

In its statement, the La Laguna City Council expressed wishes for a swift recovery to the woman involved, who was admitted to the Canary Islands University Hospital with serious multiple injuries.
