SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A cayuco carrying 54 migrants, including 11 minors, arrived at the port of Los Cristianos on the island of Tenerife early this Tuesday afternoon, as reported by sources from Maritime Rescue to Europa Press.
The national agency dispatched the Salvamar Alpheratz following a call from 112 indicating that a cayuco was navigating approximately eight miles west of the island. This information was relayed by one of the passengers on the vessel, who also mentioned that they had set sail from Nouadhibou, located on the coast of Mauritania.
The cayuco was detected by the vessel ‘Benchijigua Express’, which operates the Tenerife-La Gomera maritime route, and was subsequently escorted by the Salvamar until it reached the port. After medical assistance was provided by SUC and Red Cross personnel, the migrants were transferred to a health centre.
