This Sunday, the Tegueste Town Council, in collaboration with the Primary Sector and Local Development departments, as well as the Tegueste Wine Association (AVITE), hosted the Grape Harvest Festival. The event featured a traditional grape harvest procession and the crowning of Pastora Molina as Grape Harvester of the Year, bringing together vintners, winemakers, locals, and visitors alike.
Ana Rosa Mena, the mayor of La Villa, remarked, “This event, along with its significant turnout, showcases the strong foundations of our traditions in a wine-producing town like Tegueste, which is also known for its outstanding wines.” She also noted that “the engagement of our community members and industry professionals is a true reflection of how we preserve our customs and pass them on to future generations.”
The Primary Sector Councillor, Julián Rodríguez, emphasised that “the Harvest Festival is a celebration that recognises the hard work and dedication of our grape growers and winemakers, who through their continuous efforts, ensure we enjoy top-quality wines every year. Furthermore, this festival embodies the fusion of tradition and agricultural advancement, which are fundamental pillars for our municipality.”
“Tegueste continues to thrive as a leading example in wine production thanks to this collective endeavour,” stated Maura Martel, the Local Development Councillor, who expressed gratitude for “the collaboration of the Tegueste Wine Association and the support from local residents, both of which are crucial for preserving this tradition.”
During the festivities, alongside the honour bestowed upon Pastora Molina as Grape Harvester of the Year, awards for classic varieties were presented to Jesús Cedrés Rodríguez for the Negramolle variety, Bodegas Mederos for the Listán Blanco variety, and Antonio Díaz del Castillo for the Listán Rosado variety.
Recognition was also given to Canary Island winemakers, with accolades awarded to Ricardo Pérez for the Castellano variety, José Gutiérrez for the Moscatel variety, and Antonio Bethencourt for the Alvillo variety.
The day concluded with a lively street party organized by Grupo Atenia, under the auspices of the Department of Festivals.
