The María Jiménez district in the capital is set to commence the construction of 37 publically-promoted protected homes. This project has been awarded to VVO Construcciones by the Santa Cruz City Council, via the Department of Housing, for a total of 4,725,019 euros.
Funding for the project will be sourced from the Government of the Canary Islands, with an anticipated completion timeframe of 16 months, commencing from the day the site is marked. “The project has faced several challenges, and we hope it will begin before the end of this year,” remarked the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez.
The mayor emphasised that “we are thus making a definitive stride towards the commencement, as soon as feasible, of this public initiative, which will be complemented by the 226 units in Cuevas Blancas, a development project currently in a very advanced drafting phase.”
Bermúdez also indicated that “the type of Publicly Promoted Housing (VPP), which will be constructed in María Jiménez, stipulates that the beneficiaries are individuals or family units recognised as housing applicants, for which they must have registered in the Public Registry of Applicants for Protected Housing in the Canary Islands beforehand.”
Belén Mesa, the Councillor for Housing, added that “this award accelerates the commencement of the works, in an agreement financed by the regional Government, where the City Council supplies the land valued at 550,000 euros”.
She highlighted that “this execution complements the specific policies in this sector prioritised by the local government, which includes other initiatives such as ARRUs and the renovation of buildings aimed at enhancing sustainability, as demonstrated in the case of the 381 in Añaza, which is already in the drafting stage of its projects.”
The Municipal Housing Department has specified that the new building will feature two one-bedroom flats; 17 two-bedroom flats; 14 three-bedroom flats; two four-bedroom flats; and two two-bedroom flats adapted for accessibility. Furthermore, of the two four-bedroom flats, one will be supervised.
The total constructed area will cover approximately 3,200 m2 above ground and 1,418 m2 below ground, with the latter designated for parking facilities.
