The Secretary General of the PSOE in Tenerife, Pedro Martín, along with members of the Island Executive, convened this afternoon with Mayors and Spokespersons from municipalities in the south and southeast regions of the Island to coordinate policies across these areas at an island-wide level and to communicate their demands to institutions like the Cabildo de Tenerife, as reported in a statement by the Tenerife socialists. “Such meetings will take place in various parts of the Island over the coming months,” they stated.
In addition to Martín and the Island Executive Commission members, mayors and spokespersons from Adeje, Arona, San Miguel de Abona, Granadilla de Abona, Vilaflor, and Arico were also in attendance.
Martín voiced the concern prevalent among the socialists in the region regarding the Hospital del Sur, stating that “no advancements have been made” by the current island government of Tenerife (CC, PP), “despite the fact that we previously handed a building over to the Government of the Canary Islands, and Ángel Víctor Torres had allocated a budget for its promotion.”
“We convened to assess and align on the problems and possible solutions,” explained José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, the mayor of Adeje, to the press following one of the meetings held during the gathering. “We are still facing significant mobility challenges, particularly in the south, for which there appear to be no solutions or prospects. Several projects that were in progress are now at a standstill.”
Granadilla de Abona’s mayor, Jennifer Miranda, commented, “These meetings are primarily beneficial for clarifying the confusion and distractions surrounding issues that fail to address the real problems faced by the community.”
Olivia Delgado, the Mayor of Arico, emphasised the necessity for effective waste management in her contributions to the discussions, stating, “This is essential for fostering a green economy and compensating the residents of Arico for the impact of receiving waste from other parts of the Island.” She also highlighted the common issues associated with the drought in the area. “Let the regions be heard,” concluded the Secretary General of the PSOE in his remarks.
