The Finance Councillor of Puerto de la Cruz, Pedro Antonio Campos, along with the Councillors for Commerce and Beaches, Diego Moreno and Felipe Rodríguez, recently convened a meeting with approximately twenty traders to introduce the initial set of economic and fiscal initiatives that the council plans to implement aimed at mitigating the severe impacts resulting from the closure of Playa Jardín for swimming, caused by contamination from the rupture of the submarine outfall.
The Finance Councillor declared the local government’s commitment to amend the upcoming tax calendar to extend the deadlines for the voluntary payment of municipal taxes. Furthermore, Councillor Campos reminded attendees that, via the Tax Consortium, taxpayers can benefit from customised payment plans tailored to their circumstances to manage their tax responsibilities more comfortably.
He also revealed that businesses in Punta Brava can now take advantage of a 50% reduction in the refuse tax and confirmed that this measure will remain indefinitely until the emergency situation at Playa Jardín is resolved. Campos additionally mentioned that, in line with the provisions set forth by the tax ordinance regarding the use of public spaces, those businesses affected that remove their terraces will not be obliged to pay any taxes for the remainder of the year.
The Finance and Trade councillors informed the impacted businesses that regulations for a call for subsidies aimed at Punta Brava enterprises, which have experienced a significant downturn in turnover compared to previous quarters, are anticipated to be approved soon, with a budget of 100,000 euros. Concurrent with the prompt approval of this assistance, necessary adjustments to the Strategic Plan for Subsidies will be made to ensure a list of approved businesses is in place before year-end, enabling prompt payment of the subsidies.
Moreover, the Councillor for Commerce shared yesterday that his department intends to invigorate Punta Brava through various initiatives designed to promote spending in the neighbourhood’s establishments.
In turn, the Councillor for Beaches, Felipe Rodríguez, provided an update on the technical advancements and reaffirmed that resolving the emergency situation at Playa Jardín remains the utmost priority.
