SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council, via its Mobility department, has unveiled plans to construct and enhance eight bus stops along the TF-13 island highway, which is one of the key routes in the metropolitan area, connecting La Laguna with Punta del Hidalgo, and passing through Tegueste and Tejina.

The initiative has a budget exceeding 470,000 euros and is expected to be completed within eight months.

The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, noted in a statement that the works will comprise the establishment of four new stops, as well as the refurbishment and upgrade of the four current stops located in the areas of Verdellada and Las Mercedes.

“The TF-13 highway serves as a vital artery that necessitates maintenance, which is why we have committed to undertaking rehabilitation projects for segments from Bajamar to La Punta and from Polier to Punta del Hidalgo amounting to over three million euros. This will be complemented by the resurfacing of the Las Canteras area and our current dedication to public transport and safety through the installation and enhancement of these eight bus stops,” explained Dávila.

The president also emphasised the significance of encouraging the use of public transport as a crucial step towards alleviating road congestion and promoting environmental sustainability in Tenerife. She stated, “Our commitment to improving public transport infrastructure is a responsive measure aimed at providing Tenerife residents with more comfortable and safer travel options, helping us achieve the goal of sustainable mobility across the island.”

The four new stops will be situated in La Verdellada – both north and south – at kilometre markers 0+975 and 1+120, as well as in the Vega de Las Mercedes area (north and south) at kilometre points 3+900 and 4+020.

The works will include the installation of tactile pavements; the creation of pedestrian crossings; the setting up of shelters; the installation of seating; the provision of ischial support, S-19 stop signs, and waste bins.

Furthermore, to accommodate the new bus stops, a new bus lane will be constructed for bus access and stopping, while the pavements will be replaced and widened to facilitate the installation of the shelters.

Regarding improvements to the four existing bus stops, the works will involve adapting the current sidings by incorporating 10-metre acceleration and deceleration zones, as well as a 20-metre long and 2.70-metre wide stop area, alongside the construction of a new pavement surface.
