SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The general secretary of the PSOE in Tenerife and head of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has urged the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, to refrain from exploiting the controversy surrounding the ownership of Club Deportivo Tenerife to draw attention to herself. He suggested that if she genuinely wishes to assist the club, she should propose that the Cabildo “acquire Mr. Garrido’s shares, entirely or in partnership with other interested board members.”
“Persistently meddling in the club’s affairs while threatening to withdraw the Cabildo’s sponsorship from the team without providing solutions is more characteristic of a ‘hooligan’ than a president of the island. Her intent with this approach is nothing more than to distract from her actual duties. She pledged to completely renovate the Heliodoro by 2025 and has accomplished nothing. The only improvements made were initiated by the governing group of the Socialist Party, including the refurbishment of the bathrooms, yet no progress has been made in a year,” the secretary general of the socialists noted in a statement.
The leader of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo further emphasised that, in his view, “there has never been an island president who sought to secure so much attention at the cost of Club Deportivo Tenerife.”
A few months prior, she claimed “she was discussing the development of a ‘Tenerife Arena’ for which there isn’t even any land. Now she is capitalising on the team’s challenging situation to draw attention to herself and deflect from the fact that she has done nothing in a year and a half to enhance the stadium.”
In his view, “if the president genuinely wants to assist the club, her actions should transcend mere statements. The only work accomplished has been what the socialist party left her, such as the installation of new lighting to facilitate match broadcasts, ensuring debris does not fall onto spectators, the initial study for seat replacements, and the bathroom refurbishment, which we have commissioned.”
For these reasons, “we urge Rosa Dávila to focus on more actions and fewer words.”
