SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has voiced his opposition this Tuesday to the so-called ‘Catalan quota’ negotiated between PSOE and ERC, as it undermines the solidarity among the autonomous communities.
“We Canarians are extremely weary of being regarded as third parties by the current Government. Hence, you will have to confront the Government of the Canary Islands,” he remarked in response to a query from Vox during the parliamentary control session.
He noted, however, that the agreement in Catalonia is “vast and rather vague” and he is uncertain whether there is an alternative one, which could exist –“we are accustomed to it”– but he only perceives a potential “special consideration” for Catalonia through adjustments to the financing system or via the PGE.
He clarified that neither his administration nor his party (CC) will endorse the ‘Catalan quota’, and he hopes to secure the backing of the Parliament as well, while condemning the “ignorance or ill will” of the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, for “comparing the REF and the Catalan quota”.
Vox spokesperson Nicasio Galván has stated that the ‘Catalan quota’ signifies a “dismantling of equality and solidarity” between communities promoted by the “satrap of La Moncloa” and that it “intensifies” the distinction of first, second, and third-class Spaniards.
He has urged Clavijo to “rectify the misstep and sever ties with Sánchez” and participate in the “cultural struggle” against an agreement that embodies “disloyalty and disdain for Spain.”
