SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 9 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
As a temporary measure, the Tenerife Island Council has introduced a third shift on the two operational separation lines for waste sorting, alongside the night maintenance team at the Tenerife Environmental Complex, situated in Arico.
This initiative commenced at the start of September and aims to process 100% of the waste arriving at the complex each day, amounting to approximately 1,500 tons daily.
The Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, along with the Island Director for Waste, Alejandro Molowny, recently toured the Tenerife Environmental Complex.
In a statement, Pérez mentioned that the initiative “will remain in place whilst we await the operational readiness of the other two waste treatment lines at the Classification Plant, which will be functional in the coming weeks.”
She further noted that “we have inspected the new equipment installed, which will enable us to enhance recovery rates and diminish the volume of waste directed to the landfill.”
Alejandro Molowny outlined that the operational shifts and progress of the works have been reviewed to ensure the four lines and the newly installed equipment are commissioned promptly.
“We have also seized the moment to confirm the proper operation of the generator sets or motors powered by biogas, producing 1,200 KVA of electricity, as well as to monitor the progress of additional works being undertaken at the Environmental Complex,” he emphasised.
