SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, has expressed his criticism this Friday regarding the central Government’s handling of the migration crisis affecting the archipelago, accusing it of simply “turning a blind eye.”
“They are leading us in circles,” he remarked during a session he requested before the Parliament of the Canary Islands, where he condemned the “lack of political determination” to address the predicament. He pointed out that last weekend there was no ability to accommodate additional unaccompanied minors in El Hierro, resulting in “pressure” from the national media.
He believes that the Canarian citizens and the migrant minors “merit the dignity of at least making an effort” and lamented that until now “no one” has clarified why all parties, including the PP, the majority in Congress and controlling the autonomous regions, along with Junts, a “government partner” of the PSOE, have not come together to negotiate.
