A halt on tourist accommodation. This is the urgent appeal that the Tenerife Island Council is advocating for properties rented for brief periods via the Airbnb model, amid the severe housing crisis currently afflicting the island. Rosa Dávila, chairwoman of the Tenerife Corporation, is optimistic that the Canary Islands Government will accept this proposal to temporarily prohibit new licences in response to the surge in holiday homes on the island. This spike has been prompted by the regional government’s announcement of a new law at the start of this year aimed at regulating the rampant expansion of this model throughout the Archipelago, a regulation that awaits approval and implementation in the upcoming months.
