SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Island Council of Tenerife, via its Youth and Training department, has introduced an initiative that encourages participation in collaboration with the Youth Centres of the Valle de La Orotava and Acentejo areas.
This process enabled local youth to contemplate and suggest phrases that embody their interpretation of youth, with the goal of displaying them on the notable TF-5 sign.
In a statement, the Youth Councillor, Serafín Mesa, praised the dedication and proactive involvement of young people in the activities being organised at the island’s youth centres, emphasising that this type of initiative illustrates the “immense potential” of the island’s youth.
“Their suggestions showcase not only innovation but also a profound sense of accountability and dedication to their surroundings. They unequivocally demonstrate that young people are ready to take charge and effect change in our society,” he remarked.
Following a public vote that collected 124 ballots, the phrase chosen for the TF-5 poster was one put forward by the youth of La Orotava: “We are the way, not the end.”
This phrase encapsulates the significance of youth as change-makers and their role in shaping a collective future, underscoring that young people do not merely inherit a legacy; they are central figures in creating new opportunities and advancements.
The initiative drew participants from the municipalities of Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Santa Ursula, La Victoria de Acentejo and La Matanza de Acentejo.
Through this endeavour, not only were creativity and critical thinking encouraged, but a platform was also established for youth to articulate their values, ideas, and perspectives regarding their societal role.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Tenerife Avanza Project in conjunction with NOE from the Youth and Training department, reaffirms the island’s dedication to youth development and participation, valuing their voices and contributions to societal and communal transformation.
The winning phrase will be observed by thousands of individuals who traverse the TF-5 daily, serving as a reminder that youth is the impetus and not merely the endpoint of our society.
