The City Council of Port of the Cross has announced that the fire that broke out on Sunday evening, September 1, has been successfully extinguished.

The operation involved the Tenerife Fire Department, alongside the Local Police and the National Police, who successfully managed to contain the flames with no casualties or injuries reported.

The blaze impacted an abandoned property situated on Chorro Cuaco Street. This building, located close to the former Xibana Park hotel and Valois Street, is reportedly often occupied by squatters, raising concerns amongst local residents.

Authorities have cordoned off the affected area while investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. The task is being handled by the Scientific Police Brigade of Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos Police Station, and the possibility of arson has not been dismissed.

A local onlooker reported observing an individual near the property with a can of petrol, prompting authorities to explore this arson theory.

The council is urging the community to stay clear of the area while emergency services continue their work and the investigation proceeds.
