SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, 1 Sept. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of La Gomera is promoting birdwatching tourism to enhance its offerings as a travel destination and has participated as an exhibitor at the Falsterbo Bird Show in Sweden, aiming to link ornithology with sustainable tourism.

In a statement, the island’s tourism counsellor, María Isabel Méndez, remarked that this promotional event “is a key fixture in the annual calendar of fairs and activities, as it gathers thousands of interested attendees and specialists in tourist destinations that combine ornithology with sustainability.”

She further explained that the island has its own stand in the exhibition area, where it will distribute printed and digital materials featuring information and expert content on the avifauna of the island, which boasts over 300 bird species, more than 50 of which are nesting birds.

Furthermore, the island will be showcased as a perfect destination for those seeking experiences in close proximity to nature.

FALSTERBO BIRD SHOW

The profile of attendees at this fair, characterised by a keen interest in natural heritage and immersive experiences, will find in La Gomera a broad and varied selection of tourist resources, which enhances the island as a locale where biological and landscape diversity coexist harmoniously.

La Gomera Tourism’s strategy for this event, aside from direct engagement with the attending public, includes fostering connections with tour operators and specialised media to establish the island as a prominent destination in this expanding travel segment.

Through its active participation in the Falsterbo Bird Show, La Gomera reaffirms its commitment to nature tourism and sustainability, highlighted by its designation as a Biosphere Reserve and its commitment to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.
