Amidst fields, paths, and deserted areas… Guanche sites are not exclusively concealed in adventurous Indiana Jones-style locations, tucked away in caves or secluded spots. Some are clearly visible, coexisting with the locals right at their doorsteps. By relying on oral history and engaging with the residents of the region, the archaeological group and Guanche enthusiasts known as Imastanen have discovered Guanche rock carvings in Los Baldíos, La Laguna. This site features as many as 50 indentations on the rocks, potentially remnants of the early inhabitants’ dwellings on the Island, which now form the stone boundaries of the farms. The group is urging the relevant authorities to catalogue these findings to ensure their safeguarding.
