SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Aug (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council, via its Department of Tourism, Foreign Affairs and Institutional Relations, is advancing the training, innovation and culinary enhancement of Tenerife through an agreement with the Basque Culinary Center, amounting to 1,200,000 euros distributed across the years 2025 to 2028.

This agreement, executed by the Cabildo through Tenerife Tourism with the esteemed Basque culinary institution, aims to “elevate excellence in the island’s culinary sector and constitutes a comprehensive training programme targeting the island’s professional talent, along with innovative strategies and the promotion of Tenerife cuisine,” emphasised the vice-president and councillor for Tourism, Lope Afonso.

In this context, he noted that the goal is “to enhance competitiveness as a tourist destination and to encourage the development of the Tenerife economy, while consistently investing in the ongoing education of our professionals,” and further remarked that “Tenerife stands as a leading and pioneering destination regarding gastronomy, where cultural identity, sustainability, product quality, and the superiority of professional talent are of utmost importance.”

Afonso opined that an agreement of this kind will positively affect the “ongoing training” of professionals and help make the destination “more competitive.”

The initiative will encompass training schemes designed for talent in Tenerife to enhance skills within the culinary sector, promoted under the brand ‘Tenerife, awakens emotions’.

This training segment will be executed through online modules and practical activities at the destination, with the primary audience being professionals, educators, and students.

Additionally, promotional campaigns are planned to elevate local products via student training.

Moreover, an event will be organised in Tenerife, concentrating on endorsing and fostering cooperation within the value chain to enhance the culinary sector, among various other initiatives.
