VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 29 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A third cayuco reached the port of La Restinga (El Hierro) early this Thursday afternoon, carrying 205 migrants, whilst a fourth rescue operation is in progress by the Civil Guard’s patrol vessel ‘Río Guadiato’, as reported by sources from Maritime Rescue to Europa Press.
The vessel, which had on board 192 adults, three women, and ten minors, all of sub-Saharan origin, was located close to the port, prompting the Salvamar Adhara to depart and assist with the disembarkation process at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Furthermore, these sources indicate that a Civil Guard patrol boat is escorting another cayuco towards the port, which was identified by the Sive radar around nine miles south of the island.
Earlier in the day, two additional cayucos arrived independently at the island, containing 130 migrants, including three women and five minors. They did not require hospitalisation after receiving medical assistance on the dock from SUC and Red Cross personnel.
