VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 28 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A second cayuco carrying 254 migrants arrived on Wednesday afternoon at the island of El Hierro, according to sources from Maritime Rescue and the Red Cross who spoke to Europa Press.
The vessel was detected by the Civil Guard’s patrol boat ‘Río Guadiato’, which is tasked with monitoring the area between El Hierro and the southern coast of Tenerife, situated just over seven miles south of the island. In tandem with the Guardamar Calíope, they escorted the cayuco to the port of La Restinga for a secure landing.
Earlier in the day, another cayuco reached shore with 121 migrants, guided by the Civil Guard’s patrol boat after being identified by the SIVE radar. This group comprised 107 men, 10 women, and 4 minors, all originating from sub-Saharan Africa.
