VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 28 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A cayuco with 121 migrants of sub-Saharan origin was rescued this Wednesday in the waters surrounding El Hierro after being located seven miles southwest of La Restinga at approximately 09.30 hours by the Civil Guard patrol vessel Río Guadiato, which conducts surveillance operations on the island and the southern part of Tenerife, as reported by sources from Salvamento Marítimo to Europa Press.
The vessel was identified by an echo from the radar, leading the Salvamar Adhara to also depart and assist in bringing it safely to port.
Onboard were 107 men, 10 women, and 4 minors, who received care upon arrival at the dock from SUC and Red Cross staff.
Additionally, the Guardamar Calíope has been deployed in search of a second cayuco that was detected by the Civil Guard seven and a half miles from the island.
