VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 26 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A wooden boat carrying 136 migrants of sub-Saharan descent was saved this Monday in waters to the southwest of El Hierro, as reported by sources from Maritime Rescue to Europa Press.
The migrants were brought ashore at La Estaca port, located in the island’s capital, by the Guardamar Calíope around 2:00 p.m. due to adverse sea conditions at La Restinga port, while the Salvamar Adhara was tasked with towing the wooden vessel.
On board were 126 men, eight women, and two minors, who, after receiving medical assistance from personnel of the Red Cross and SUC, were deemed to be in good overall health.
This wooden boat adds to another one that was rescued earlier that morning with 51 migrants on board.
