On Tuesday, 17th September, Santiago del Teide will transform into a hub of culinary excellence and talent with the hosting of the 7th Regional Competition of Chefs and Pastry Chefs of the Canary Islands 2024, commencing at 9:00 a.m. at the Chinyero Visitor Centre, located in Santiago del Teide.
This esteemed event will assemble the finest culinary talents from the Canary Islands, where six finalists in the cooking category and another six in the pastry category will vie for the top prize.
The competition is orchestrated by the Town Hall of the Historic Town of Santiago del Teide and ACYRE Canarias, in conjunction with the Department of Commerce of the Island Council of Tenerife and Tenerife Tourism.
In terms of the competition format, participants in the cooking category are required to create their recipes using seasonal tuna and goat meat. The recipe creation is unrestricted, enabling each chef to showcase their creativity and culinary prowess. Meanwhile, the pastry chefs will face the challenge of crafting a dessert featuring tropical fruits from the island, alongside honey and almonds sourced from Santiago del Teide.
It is notable that the victors of this competition will earn a chance to participate in the National Cooking and Pastry Competition, which is set to take place in Torrelavega (Cantabria), thereby elevating our gastronomy to a national platform.
Additionally, this culinary gathering will incorporate a variety of workshops, presentations, and tastings accessible to the public, led by prominent national and international figures in gastronomy and innovation, including our local chef Ronny Reina from La Quinta Restaurant, in addition to Mario Rodríguez, the sommelier at Pancho Restaurant.
