VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 23 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On Friday morning, Maritime Rescue towed a cayuco to the port of La Restinga in El Hierro, carrying 173 migrants onboard and one deceased individual.
The vessel was discovered one mile south of the island, with the Guardamar Calíope and the Salvamar Adhara, dispatched from the control centre in Tenerife, taking part in the rescue operation.
The occupants of the canoe, which included six infants and eight women, received assistance from the Red Cross medical team as well as the Canary Islands Emergency Service.
