Cafeteria Roof Collapse Sends Shockwaves Through Santa Cruz de Tenerife

At approximately eight o’clock on Wednesday morning, just moments before the employees at El Panaria on Calle de La Marina in Santa Cruz de Tenerife were to retrieve the pastries from the display, the shop’s roof gave way.

“My colleagues are still quite anxious,” stated another team member to Canarian Television, who felt alarmed upon arriving at the bakery and observing the cordoned-off area. “We hope this situation can be resolved swiftly as it is a very grave issue.”

Authorities including police, firefighters, National Police, basic life support ambulances and Civil Protection units have been sent to the location.

The incident occurred near the entryway of the shop, which obstructed the automatic door system, necessitating assistance from firefighters for the workers to exit. One of the affected staff members mentioned on public television that “it was miraculous they weren’t struck because they were close to the oven, sparks were flying as the lever was activated” and then they heard the roof collapsing.

At 08:16, the Cecoes operations room received a notification regarding the roof collapse of the bakery, noting that it was not open to the public at that time. The employees sustained no injuries and were not required to be taken to hospital, as explained by 112.
