VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 18 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On Sunday, Maritime Rescue apprehended two cayucos transporting a combined total of 198 migrants as they navigated waters near the island of El Hierro.
As reported by the national agency, the first of these unauthorised vessels was detected at approximately 11:47 a.m. this Sunday, close to La Restinga Pier, and was escorted to the port by the Salvamar Adhara.
Soon after, at 13:42 hours, a second cayuco was observed two miles south of La Restinga, prompting the maritime rescue team to depart and also guide it to the harbour.
Furthermore, the Red Cross indicated that the standard healthcare protocol in such situations, established in conjunction with the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), attended to all 198 migrants, with five requiring transfer to a hospital for various medical conditions.
