This weekend, La Laguna will be hosting the celebration of International Youth Day, an event that brings together leisure, music, sports, and culture with young people at the forefront. According to Sergio Eiroa, the Councillor for Youth and Education of the City Council, this gathering reflects the vibrant and dynamic spirit of youth who seek spaces to express themselves, have fun, and connect with their peers. It is essential to provide these kinds of alternatives to fill their free time, as it not only enhances the social and cultural fabric of La Laguna but also promotes values of coexistence and participation.

The event, organized by the Department of Youth, has received support from various departments of the local Corporation, including Municipal Services, Culture, Environment, Citizen Security, Autonomous Body of Sports, as well as the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Department of Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife.

The festivities will last until 11:00 p.m. at three different locations: Parque de Las Mantecas, El Polvorín de Taco, and Punta del Hidalgo, which have been transformed into lively hubs of fun and camaraderie for both young residents and visitors. Each area offers a variety of activities catering to diverse interests, ranging from sports and technology to music and arts.

Sergio Eiroa, the Area Councillor, made rounds across the three locations to soak in the festive spirit. “The younger generations are the future, and events like today’s demonstrate that, given the opportunity, they are capable of engaging and contributing. It has been a successful celebration, leaving a positive impact on all participants,” he remarked. Eiroa also expressed his enthusiasm for the overwhelming response, highlighting the potential and talent of young individuals and stressing the importance of investing in youth as a catalyst for societal progress and change.

The programme features activities and workshops suitable for all ages and preferences, including XL games, table tennis competitions, table football, ping pong, bike circuits, and pedal vehicles. Moreover, there are dedicated zones for tech enthusiasts, offering retro gaming and driving simulators. The area showcasing extreme and urban sports, with skateboard and BMX workshops, calisthenics, and climbing walls, encourages a culture of learning and cooperation.

The day’s climax will be a musical finale, featuring several concerts endorsed by Los 40 Canarias, starring renowned and up-and-coming artists such as Renzzo el Selector, Soul Sanet, Mel Ömana, Ledes Díaz, Aridian, Kiddy, and DJ Neizan. The lineup promises a diverse blend of urban, Latin, and electronic music genres, including funk, soul, hip hop, house, old school, and drum and bass.
