The magnificent shower of flower petals during the San Roque Pilgrimage in Garachico has painted the streets of this northern town in Tenerife with vibrant colours today as the locals join in the celebrations of one of the most traditional festivals in the Canary Islands. This special moment was captured through the lens of photojournalist Fran Pallero from DIARIO DE AVISOS.
The village and harbour of Garachico will come alive on Friday with numerous worshippers, pilgrims, music, floats, and dancers honouring their patron saint. The day commenced at 09:30 with a mass for the pilgrims held at the hermitage dedicated to San Roque.
The procession will set off around 2:00 p.m. from Pérez Zamora Street towards Esteban de Ponte before following the final stretch along Via San Roque leading to the hermitage of the patron saint.
After the pilgrimage concludes around 6:00 p.m., the festivities will continue in Plaza de San Roque with the pilgrims’ dance featuring performances by the groups Saoco and Latin Sound, marking the culmination of one of the most anticipated and unique days for the residents of Garachico and the surrounding area.
