Natural Pool at Hidalgo Point Closed Due to Contamination
Visitors to the natural pool at Hidalgo Point in San Cristóbal de La Laguna were disappointed as the popular bathing spot had to be closed due to contamination issues.
The closure was a result of the presence of waste in the water, leading to concerns about the safety of swimmers, as reported by witnesses and sources from the Laguna town hall.
As the area is a natural pool, no chemicals can be used to address the contamination. Municipal authorities explained that the pool needs to be marked, cleaned, emptied, and refilled with fresh water, a process that can take almost a day.
Importance of the Closure
The local council emphasised that the closure was a necessary step to ensure the health and safety of bathers in the municipality’s recreational areas.
Daida López, a resident of Punta del Hidalgo, shared, “Lifeguards evacuated bathers from the water upon discovering the contamination and promptly informed us of the situation.”
