This Friday sees the third vote of no confidence in the history of Puerto de la Cruz being celebrated.
The Portuense Citizen Assembly, Canarian Coalition, and Popular Party have signed an “emergency” pact to govern the tourist city.
Heading the administration will be Leopoldo Afonso, brother of the current vice president of the Cabildo and former mayor of El Puerto, Lope Afonso. His political career started during this term as an opposition councillor, although he has always been associated with the PP. Presently, he holds the position of president of the municipal group. If there are no last-minute changes, he will take over from Marco González today with the support of the ACP and CC. However, it remains to be seen if the polls will swing in favour of the PSOE again by 2027.
