The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias witnessed a touching ceremony in honour of the Virgin of Candelaria, the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands, on Thursday evening. This event, a musical and cultural homage, brought together renowned artists and folk groups from the Islands, showcasing devotion and heritage.
The Parranda Chasnera led the musical tribute, with performances by talented vocalists from various islands including Ayatimas Brito, Arón Morales, and Moneiba García. As a gesture of solidarity, the delegation from Puno (Peru) gifted the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, with the traditional costumes of Puno dances for display.
The event was graced by several dignitaries including Brito, the prior of the Dominican Fathers and rector of the basilica, Juan Manuel Martínez, the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, the third vice president, José Carlos Acha, and the Minister of Employment, Efraín Medina.
In attendance were the Director General of Migration of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Téllez, the entire municipal council of Candelaria, and a delegation from the sister municipalities of Teror (Gran Canaria) and Puno. This delegation was led by the Mayor of the island town, Sergio Nuez, and the regional vice-governor of Puno, Eladia Margot De La Riva Valle.
