SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
A 21-year-old man has been apprehended by National Police officers for allegedly committing six robberies in apartments and two cases of deception in the tourist district of southern Tenerife.
The arrest occurred subsequent to the complaints filed, where it was verified that the young man would enter the hotel complexes in the early hours of the morning by scaling the security perimeters. Once inside, he would access the apartments via the terraces while the vacationers were asleep.
According to a press release from the National Police, the thefts were focused in an area within a radius of approximately one kilometer, impacting several apartment complexes. The stolen items mainly consisted of electronic gadgets like smartphones, earpods, tablets and ebooks, as well as small sums of money and credit cards, which were subsequently used in commercial outlets.
With this information, the Local Judicial Police Brigade of southern Tenerife was able to pinpoint and capture the suspected culprit of these crimes last July. This was achieved after conducting specialised searches and determining that all the thefts were executed by the same individual using an identical modus operandi.
The police inquiry has been processed at the Local Police Station in the south of Tenerife and has been forwarded to the appropriate court for further legal proceedings.
It’s worth noting that the National Police have provided some preventative security recommendations to consider while staying in tourist accommodations. This includes making sure that doors and windows are securely shut, particularly at night and when the property is unoccupied. Visitors are also advised to utilise safe deposit boxes if available, to safeguard valuables, money and important documents.
Furthermore, it’s advisable to refrain from leaving electronic devices, jewellery or other valuables in plain view. When in common areas such as reception or restaurants, it’s recommended to keep an eye on luggage and personal belongings (bags, cameras, etc.).
Lastly, in the event of witnessing any suspicious behaviour or unfamiliar individuals within the complex, it is crucial to promptly inform the accommodation’s management or the authorities. If you become a victim of a crime, immediate assistance can be requested by dialling 091 or by utilising the ALERTCOPS application.
