SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has expressed his wish to arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, during his stay on the island of Lanzarote, where he is taking a few days off at La Mareta.
Addressing the press, Fernando Clavijo mentioned that Moncloa has not yet reached out to his team or office, and he assumes that if Pedro Sánchez “expresses interest, Moncloa will get in touch with the Presidency to schedule a meeting.”
Clavijo expressed that a meeting with Sánchez would be “highly beneficial” as there are numerous topics to discuss, including a particularly challenging one – migration. He noted the continuous arrivals of small boats and minors, and there are indications that from September onwards, the situation could be “unchanged or even worse” than last year.
Conclusively, the President of the Canary Islands mentioned that meeting with Pedro Sánchez would be “appropriate,” but underlined that “the decision lies with him.”
