Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council trials bus lane to Las Teresitas Beach

The Santa Cruz City Council, under the jurisdiction of the Mobility department, has completed the trial run of the bus lane to Las Teresitas on various weekends in June, July, and August. The Council states that there is sufficient data to evaluate the effectiveness of the initiative implemented on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the summer months.

The Council emphasizes that the initiative was always carried out “with the aim of ensuring accessibility for the residents of San Andrés, as well as for the inhabitants of the villages and hamlets in the Anaga massif.”

In addition, the Mobility Councillor, Evelyn Alonso, announced that traffic studies will continue in the area, focusing on the parking spaces along the San Andrés seafront avenue, the newly opened area at the beachfront, and the beach’s parking lots.

Furthermore, they will strive to develop new initiatives, measures, and alternative solutions to “enhance” mobility on the capital’s coast and public transport flow, in order to alleviate congestion and prevent significant delays.

According to the data collected, the bus occupancy during the weekends when the lane was operational “surpassed 22,000 passengers,” including users of line 910 (Interchange-Las Teresitas). The Council highlights that “as a result of the operation, travel times were around 30 minutes or less, whereas on weekends without the lane, travel times from the Fishing Dock to the beach entrance exceeded 40 minutes.”
