Far from being content, the members of the current executive of the PSOE in El Puerto are profoundly dissatisfied and disturbed. They are echoing the sentiments of party members and supporters who have shared their discontent with them. This is all in response to the regional and island executive’s lack of reaction towards the impending vote of no confidence that will take place this Friday at the town hall of the main city in the North against Marco González, the third socialist mayor who has a motion to remove him presented by PP, CC and this time, a left-wing party (ACP). A letter sent by the local PSOE group to the regional and island executive on the 9th of this month clearly expresses these sentiments.

In the letter, the local group, following an open assembly on Monday, August 5, expressed their “concern and discomfort” from the outset. They highlighted a general sense of unease regarding the perceived lack of support from the island and regional executives concerning the motion of censure presented in their municipality.

The Puerto de la Cruz socialists, known for their deep roots, history, and votes, emphasize that this motion represents “an event of great importance that has had a significant impact in the political and social sphere in Puerto de la Cruz. From the first moment, our executive and municipal group have worked with dedication and transparency, always defending the interests of our party and the citizens. Yet, despite the presence of some island and regional organic representatives, and calls from colleagues, the support did not materialize as anticipated. This perceived lack of support has left our members and sympathisers feeling helpless, weakening our stance at this critical juncture.

They stress the importance of coordination and support at an organisational level, which they see as vital in tackling challenges like the one they are currently facing. They express disappointment at the lack of response and support in this situation and respectfully demand to be informed about the planned policies and actions at the island and regional levels going forward, along with the reasons behind the perceived lack of support. They are hoping for a strong show of support on the 16th and expect the necessary measures to be taken to enhance coordination and unity within the party to preserve their shared values and the common good. Over the weekend, Mayor Marco González affirmed that “the PSOE must show CC and PP that it is not anyone’s wild card.”
